Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We have answers. Read on!

Lessons

Q: How do I sign up for lessons?
A: Visit our New Student page or give us a call at (585) 352-8686 and we can help you sign up over the phone.

Q: Is there a registration fee?
A:No.

Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: Please contact us for current lesson fees.

Q: Are you contracted to a certain amount of lessons?
A:No.

Q: How do I pay for lessons?
A:We accept cash or check for lesson payments in the studio. Lesson payments are made at the beginning of each month for the month’s lessons. If you need to cancel a lesson that you have already paid for, you receive a credit for that lesson, and credits roll over month-to-month. The studio sends a lesson bill to your email and lessons are paid for by credit card.

Rentals

Q: Do you sell or rent instruments?
A:Yes. We are an affiliate of Music and Arts, and have instruments available to purchase or rent through them.

Q: What do I do to rent an instrument?
A:Just come to the studio during business hours. We will go over rental policies, select an instrument, and fill out a contract. Most customers leave the studio with an instrument on the same day! Be sure to bring a credit card for rental payments and cash or check to purchase supplies. Rentals can be paid for with cash or check as well, but this will typically require a security deposit and monthly statement fee.

Q: Do you repair instruments?
A:We don’t do repairs on-site, but offer a repair service through our affiliation with Music and Arts. Instruments are sent out for repair, and are typically returned to the studio within 2-3 weeks, depending on the time of year.

Q: My rental instrument needs repairs! What do I do?
A:Bring your instrument into the studio and we will send it out for repairs. You can also bring the instrument to any Music and Arts location or affiliate store for repairs. Music and Arts rental instruments must be repaired at a Music and Arts store or an affiliate; a third party cannot repair them.

Q: Do I receive a loaner instrument while my rental instrument is being repaired?
A:If you purchased LDW (rental insurance) with your rental instrument, yes. When you come to the studio to drop off your instrument for repair, we will loan you an instrument while your instrument is in the repair shop. If you did not purchase LDW or you are not renting an instrument through Music and Arts, unfortunately we cannot give you a loaner.

Q: Do you buy back used instruments/music stands?
A:No.

Q: I’m renting an instrument through Dori’s and I have a problem with my bill.
A:We don’t handle billing for Music and Arts rentals. If you have any problems, please call Music and Arts customer service at 1-800-759-2221.

Sales
Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A:No, we can only accept cash or check for purchases at the studio. However, for renting an instrument through Music and Arts, credit cards are preferred.

Q: Do you sell gift certificates?
A:Absolutely! Gift certificates may be purchased for any amount in the studio and are valid for six months from the date of purchase.

Q: I need to purchase a book or supply, but I can’t make it to the studio during your hours.
A:Just give us a call and let us know what you want. We can leave any supply at The Unique Shop (next door to the studio), where you can pay for and pick up an item during their business hours (Monday-Friday 10-6, Saturdays 10-4). The Unique Shop also sells music books and instrument supplies if you are unable to call us.

Q: The studio doesn’t have a book I need.
A:Just let us know, and we will be happy to order it for you. Special orders require a $10 deposit (will be deducted from price of item at arrival and additional amount refunded if necessary) and generally take 1-2 weeks to arrive.

Q: Can I return a book?
A:Due to copyright laws, we cannot accept returns on printed music. However, we can
exchange lesson books for a different level within two business days from the date of purchase with a receipt.

Q: Can I return instrument supplies such as reeds?
A:Due to health concerns, any instrument supply that has been opened cannot be returned. If a supply is in its original packaging and is unopened, it may be returned within 30 days of the date of purchase with a receipt.

Q: Can I return music gifts?
A:All music gifts not on sale are returnable if the item is in its original packaging (if applicable) and is undamaged with a receipt.
